SHANGHAI 18 September – Two more shipbuilding projects have been set up in Haimen, Nantong. One is Jiangsu Haixin Ship Engineering Co, which involves the investment of CNY2.6bn ($350M). Its registered capital is CNY400M. Production value should reach CNY4bn when the yard is put into operation. The other new yard is Nantong Daoda HI, which has received an investment of CNY2bn ($260M). The yard will build mainly VLCCs with a prospective production value of over CNY6bn. Nantong is located on the northern bank of the Yangtze River Mouth, opposite Shanghai. This region seems keen to become another shipbuilding centre and is determined to make shipbuilding its ‘pillar industry’.
